Crailing, Eckford and Nisbet Community Council set up an Oil Group Purchase Scheme in 2012 which has proven to be highly successful. From a baseline of 7 participants this has grown to almost 200. The express aim of the scheme is to primarily save local residents money on their fuel bills i.e. those people residing within the Community Council area (see boundary plan attached) which includes the main villages of Crailing, Eckford, Nisbet and the Ulstons' and all other properties within the CEN CC boundary). The Scheme is also open to neighbouring communities with a number of existing participants located in Oxnam, Heiton and Morebattle.
On the 12th January 2026 we are proud to announce that savings made to participants is swiftly heading toward £270,000 which we are sure you will agree is an impressive sum for a small area.
The system is very simple - we tell participants when we are about to place an order, they tell us how many litres they need (if any). The minimum order limit 500 litres. We negotiate the best deal we can then let participants know who the supplier is and how much they will be charged per litre. Then it is over to the individual participant to pay the supplier direct and confirm all of their details. Payment must be paid within 48 hours of the order being placed to avoid delays in fuel despatch. Participants are in charge of their own requirements and we do not get involved in any payments.
