Horsemarket & Woodmarket, Kelso, road closures
As you may be aware the crossing points at the Woodmarket and Horsemarket in Kelso are showing signs of deformation and require the cobbled/whin stone setts to be lifted and relayed/replaced to alleviate this issue for pedestrians visiting the Town Centre, especially as we approach the Festive period. We are programming these works at this time following the end of what has been a busy summer and early autumn period for the Town.
Works will firstly commence at the Woodmarket crossing on Monday 28th October for a duration of 5 working days, then when this section is complete the squad will move onto the Horsemarket crossing on Monday 4th November for a duration of 5 working days. However, we will endeavour to complete the works in a shorter timescale if possible.
Due to the type of works required and to comply with current Health & Safety Legislation, these works will require to be carried out under a full road closure as outlined below:
Woodmarket – From 9:00 on Monday 28th October to 16:00 on Friday 1st November
Horsemarket – From 9:00 on Monday 4th November to 16:00 on Friday 8th November
Closure 1
The following road will be closed to vehicular traffic from 9:00 on the 28th October to 16:00 on the 1st November 2024 to allow Scottish Borders Council to carry out carriageway repairs:-
• Woodmarket, Kelso – from Simon Square westwards for 20 metres
The alternative eastbound route is via The Square, Bridge Street, Maxwellheugh, Station Road, A698 and Shedden Park Road to point of closure.
No Waiting
Parking will be prohibited on the following roads for the duration of the above closure:-
• Woodmarket – from the Square to Abbey Row – South side of the road only.
• Woodmarket – From Abbey Row westwards for 40 metres – North side of the road only.
• The Square – from Bridge Street to Woodmarket – south side only.
One Way
The one way order on the following roads will be rescinded for the duration of the above closure:-
• Woodmarket – from the Square to Abbey Row
• The Square – from Bridge Street to Woodmarket
Closure 2
The following road will be closed to vehicular traffic from 9:00 on the 4th November to 16:00 on the 8th November 2024 to allow Scottish Borders Council to carry out carriageway repairs:-
• Horsemarket, Kelso – from Rose Lane to Cross Street
The alternative westbound route is via Rose Lane, Shedden Park road, A698, B6352 Station road and Bridge Street to point of closure.
No Waiting
Parking will be prohibited on the following road for the duration of the above closure:-
• Horsemarket – from the Square to Rose lane – North side of the road only.
• The Square – from Mill Wynd southwards for 10 metres – west side only.
One Way
The one way order on the following road will be rescinded for the duration of the above closure:-
• Horsemarket, Kelso – from The Square to Cross Street
