Remembrance Day 11/11/2020
« Back to HistoricalUnfortunately, due to Covid restrictions, it was not possible to hold the usual Armistice Ceremony at the War Memorial in Eckford, followed by teas in the Village Hall.
INSTEAD, at 11.00am on 11th November, 2020 community representatives, Margaret Jeary and Charlie Robertson met at the War Memorial. Margaret recited the verse
“They shall not grow old” and read out the names of the Eckford and district people who had died in the service of their country in both World Wars and the Korean War. Charlie then laid the wreath. Two minutes silence was then observed. Margaret's husband, Peter, was the token member of the public and photographer.
Even in these difficult times we must not forget the people who gave their lives for us.They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morningWe will remember them.
